LABOR HISTORY

The first Labor Day was celebrated Sept. 5, 1882, in New York City, when some 20,000 working people marched to demand an eight-hour workday and other labor law reforms. Since then, Labor Day celebrations have taken many forms, and so has labor activism. To learn more, check out posts from the AFL-CIO Now blog on the history of Labor Day and other key moments in labor history.
